Lee Shannon (born Lowen Lee Slagle) worked every shift and played every type of music during his thirty eight years in radio, but claimed his expertise in Country. Shannon began his radio career at KTNC Falls City, NB (1958-1959) then worked at KNCY, Nebraska City, NB (1959), KNIM Maryville, MO (1960) KTNC (1960), WQUA Moline, IL ((1960- 1961), KFDI Wichita, KS, (1962) KSTT Davenport, IA (1962) and back to KFDI (1963). He then worked at WKBN Youngstown, OH (1964-1965) before returning a third tome to KFDI (1965-1966). Shannon then worked at KSTT (1966-1968), WIRE Indianapolis IN (1968-1980), WCCF (1980-1981), KSON San Diego CA (1982), KWKH Shreveport LA (1983-1983), WHOO Orlando, FL (1982), WJXR, Macclenny, FL (1992-1993), WCRS, Jacksonville FL (1993), WOKF Folkston, GA (1994-1996). He was named Country Music Association Disc Jockey of the Year in 1980 and 1984 (the first person to win more than once). Shannon worked with the Spina Bifida Association, American Cancer Society, American Red Cross, local blood banks, Jacksonville Toys for Needy Kids and Indianapolis Blind Bowlers. He retired in 1996. Lee Shannon was inducted into the Country Music D J Hall of Fame in 1998.
