We asked CRB board members to share what they are most excited for at CRS 2013 for "The Board Blogs." Read on to see what board member and Max Media Director of Operations and Programming John Shomby is most excited at this year's seminar:
This will be my 10th CRS I will attend and I can say, without qualification, that this is the most exciting, entertaining and educational agenda I have ever seen. Having a keynote speaker to kick off each day really will set the tone for that particular day. Three excellent speakers with vastly different backgrounds. I am especially interested in Thursday morning’s speaker David Dixon, the political media consultant. For years, we’ve been telling our jocks that they are “campaigning” for listeners every day. I am anxious to hear of the parallels between the two industries, especially with the use of social media.
If you are a relatively new programmer, this is the first time you will REALLY have a chance to sit and talk with some very experienced PD’s in the business. The Thursday morning Programming Mentoring Breakfast should be an outstanding forum for networking and establishing relationships. This is what CRS is all about – helping you grow and helping you build relationships in our format.
Most of all, you will get to hear some outstanding country music all 3 days starting with the UMG lunch performance at the Ryman which is always filled with surprises to the singer/songwriter spotlights – WCRS and KCRS Live – to the first-of-its-kind Grand Ole Opry on Wednesday night with Brad paisley, Darius Rucker, Josh Turner and lots more. The Opry doesn’t do these shows outside of its regular schedule too often so this is a real treat. I haven’t gotten to the Capitol/MCA Lunch which always brings the house down on Thursday and the Black River Entertainment lunch with Craig Morgan, Kellie Pickler and Sarah Darling on Friday. Of course, the music finale of CRS is the annual New Faces of Country Music with 5 of the best new acts to hit the format this past year.
Now, I haven’t gotten to the panels throughout the seminar but there is something for every size market from PPM to all that’s digital; from developing air talent to building relationships with record labels.
Get plenty of rest this coming weekend. Be ready for lots of energy, fun and music!!!!
Coming up, just what’s in it for a GM and Sales Manager?
